Museum shopping #03: British Museum 16/03/17

I must say that The British Museum is probably my favourite, well it is equal to Athens’ National Archaeological Museum in my heart. I love both of these for the fantastic array of sculpture, ceramics and jewellery from the ancient world. Of course there are serious issues concerning the Elgin Marbles, but I will not discuss that in this post. Let’s just say that I am thrilled to have seen both them and the Parthenon itself.

My own expertise was in Ancient Greek black and red figure vases. Mind you, that was a very long time ago, when I did my MA in the 1970s. So, I have a weakness for items in the British Museum Shop which use Ancient Greek motifs. They also have a lot of things connected with Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt, as well as with exhibitions that have been held in the museum.

I chose some items from the shop to put into two collages below. The first one has a range of items with the theme of Ancient Greece, although a couple of Hokusai influenced things found their way in too! I think the top bangle might find its way into my jewellery box one day.

The second collage has a selection of scarves – there are loads more available from the online shop. Some of these are lovely.

I hope I can visit the British Museum again one day and see my favourite exhibits. Mind you, this is my most favourite item of all time from the Athens Museum…
